Holistic Thyroid Treatment

Thyroid diet, lifestyle changes and supplementation can help with thyroid problems.

Since my help with thyroid problems is based on a whole-body concept, it is important to understand the root cause of the condition. It is equally vital to be able to recognise symptoms.

To target your holistic thyroid treatment and put you on the right thyroid diet, we first have to establish the exact issue; i.e. do you suffer from low thyroid function or is your thyroid overactive?

Low Thyroid Function (Hypothyroidism)

Hypothyroidism is often associated with lethargy—everything works slower, including your heart, bowels and your brain. Curiously, you may be feeling wired at the same time because a low thyroid can cause a rise in the adrenal hormones (adrenaline and cortisol) to compensate for low production of neurotransmitters in the brain. Other problems you may experience include …

If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism but choose to be proactive about it and tackle the root cause of the issue, my holistic thyroid treatment is for you. Or, you may have done a Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test which said you were within normal range. However, you are still suffering from symptoms. This is known as sub-clinical hypothyroidism and a thyroid diet and lifestyle changes will help with that too.

Overactive Thyroid Function (Hyperthyroidism)

With a low thyroid, everything in your body works a little too slow, with hyperthyroidism everything is too fast, including your heart, bowels and digestion. As a result, you may suffer from …

  • Feeling jittery & edgy, as if you were on a caffeine or sugar rush
  • Sleeplessness
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Racing thoughts
  • Fast pulse
  • Breathlessness
  • Weight loss despite an increased appetite
  • Feeling too hot for no clear reason/always feeling as though somebody set the thermostat too high

Holistic Thyroid Treatment—The Thyroid-Adrenal Connection

Women can sometimes be diagnosed as having hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) when, in reality, the fault lies with the adrenal glands. So, to help with thyroid problems it can be helpful to first address your adrenals.

Chronic stress and sustained cortisol production impact negatively on your thyroid. Stress puts your body under duress, forcing other important physiological actions like thyroid hormone production to slow in favour of dealing with the ‘stressor’. This means sorting out adrenal fatigue issues will simultaneously help your thyroid.
